OFFICER CANDIDATES
On Sunday, March 9th, HHPC will hold a congregational meeting for the sole purpose of electing new elders and deacons. This meeting and election will be held immediately following the conclusion of each worship service. This election comes as the next step in a process that began last spring. At that time, the members of HHPC nominated men to be considered as candidates for elder and deacon. That period of nominations was followed by initial interviews, a seventeen-week theological training course, and a series of final interviews. The goal of the process throughout is to come alongside each candidate to help them discern their sense of readiness and calling to serve in this way at this time.
Please see the bios below to get to know our candidates better, and join us in praying for their families as they answer the Lord’s call to serve HHPC in this way.
In keeping with our denominations policy, absentee ballots are not allowed.
ELDER CANDIDATE
Jim Evans
My wife, Leslie, and I have been married for 30 years. We moved to Hilton Head from Cleveland, OH 3 years ago. We have 3 grown daughters, whom we feel we do not see frequently enough, and I work within the healthcare software space.
I grew up in a wonderful Christian home, and have known the Lord since I was a young child. Leslie and I met at church in DC and have been fortunate to be able to serve in a variety of ways in the church throughout our lives. We have been members at HHPC since the fall of 2022.
I look forward to serving as an Elder to better engage in the service of prayer and shepherding for the local body. We have been so encouraged by the ministry here and want to see people grow in Christ.
DEACON CANDIDATES
Stefano Castano
I was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. I have been married to my wife, Carrie, for 9 years and we have two children Oliver (8) and Stella (5). Professionally, I work as an AV Technician in Bluffton. Our family has called the Low Country home for the past eight years.
Though I was raised Roman Catholic, my relationship with the Lord waned during my teenage years. However, through the welcoming community at HHPC, God’s grace rekindled my faith. We have been grateful members since 2019.
It is with excitement and humility that I will now serve as a Deacon, supporting our Church and its members.
Matt Crowe
My name is Matt Crowe and I am married to Rebekah. We just had our first kid, his name is Elias. I am a Hilton Head native and have been a member here since I was a kid.
I came to know Jesus at a young age. Throughout my life I have had significant times where my walk with the Lord has been strengthened and I’ve learned some big lessons. I attended Clemson University and RUF was a massive part of my time in college.
I am excited to answer the call to be a deacon for our church community and can’t wait to serve!
Jeff Greene
I have been married to Sally for 35 years. We have 4 adult children. I have worked for J&P Enterprise for 37 years, we are in the textile and machining businesses.
My mother was a strong Christian and I came to know the Lord at an early age. We have attended HHPC for 14 years and moved to the Island in 2022.
I served as a deacon at our previous church and look forward to resetting the clock and serving the folks in the low country.
Larry Riff
I am married to Diane and we have two daughters (Angela and Amanda), and a son (Nicholas). I am retired and I enjoy golf and fishing.
I grew up in a Catholic home and went to Catholic school. It was in 1977 that I was called to take my faith to a new level. I was baptized and began my walk with the Lord. Since then, I have been involved mostly independent Christian churches. Diane and I moved to Hilton Head in August of 2022 at which time we began our journey with HHPCA.
I am grateful to serve as a deacon and will strive to honor our Lord in all I do.
