• 1. What is INFOR

The term "INFOR" is meant to get such a question, but it can be answered by anyone quickly. Simply put, "INFOR" means (for us) "In the Lowcountry, for the Lowcountry." It means to be on mission right where you are: in the community, for the community.

    2. What is mission?

Well, it starts with the gospel -- the good news of Jesus Christ. Not just a ticket to heaven, but the true story of the whole world that defines everything.

Michael Goheen says, "The gospel invites repentance and faith, and one who believes that, in Jesus, God is restoring every corner of the creation and aligns themselves with this, enters a big story that began in creation and will reach its goal in the kingdom. And, more, that person is summoned to be part of a new humankind that will inhabit the restored creation at the end of history, and until then, demonstrate that good news with their lives and deeds and announce it with their words. Put simply: the gospel means we are part of the true story of the whole world and called to the holistic mission of making known the gospel of the kingdom."

From the magnificent to the mundane, every facet of our lives moves within the greater story of God renewing all things. How might we focus, then, on things like our vocations, recreations, and creations in the community we've been placed in?

    3. What does it mean to be missional?

To be missional is to be intentional.

In a world full of choices and distractions, we need to be as intentional as ever when it comes to choosing how to participate in God's mission. Lesslie Newbigin makes a helpful distinction between missionary dimension and missionary intention.

"There is a missional dimension to the whole of our lives. Our friendships and families, our use of technology and money, our life in our neighbourhood and at work: all of these point to being the new humanity renewed in Christ. However, a missional intention is also needed. We should embrace activities that have a deliberate focus on making known the good news."

And Newbigin later warns, “Because the Church is mission there is a missionary dimension of everything that the Church does. But not everything the Church does has a missionary intention. And unless there is in the life of the Church a point of concentration for the missionary intention, the missionary dimension which is proper to the whole life of the Church will be lost.” What is true for the church is also true for each of us. Our whole lives witness to the coming kingdom, faithful or unfaithful in that witness.

Look at what you already spend your time doing. Most of us are already in many potential areas of mission.

    Perhaps we lack intentionality.

    4. How can I be more intentional, with INFOR in mind?
